{"id":1739,"date":"2018-09-30T20:46:09","date_gmt":"2018-10-01T03:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/?p=1739"},"modified":"2018-09-30T20:48:49","modified_gmt":"2018-10-01T03:48:49","slug":"coaxial-surge-protector-preventing-high-speed-wi-fi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/?p=1739","title":{"rendered":"Coaxial Surge Protector preventing High Speed Wi-Fi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So recently we called up our service provider to check in about cable\/internet service.\u00a0 They notified us that we could get a new modem because they had upgraded their speeds.<\/p>\n<p>The modem arrived and had good installation instructions including going to a site to activate it.\u00a0 All seemed OK, took 1\/2 an hour.\u00a0 Testing off the cell phones (I didn&#8217;t initially test on any machines) speeds seemed about the same as before.\u00a0 And started to get the impression something was not right.<\/p>\n<p>Next morning I wake up to log into work on my machine and the internet is way slow.\u00a0 I decide to run a speed check:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/62039074b1b75f93ce101130b9829192.png\" width=\"501\" height=\"229\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not so great at all.<\/p>\n<p>Calling up the provider&#8217;s help desk, we start to walk through a debug &#8212; which involves switching ether net cables directly to a machine and running the test.\u00a0 Still slow.\u00a0 I get disconnected from them (of course) but continue on with an idea.<\/p>\n<p>I had hooked my incoming cable to a surge protector &#8212; it worked fine with the previous modem.\u00a0 But removing the coaxial surge protector from the chain was the solution &#8212; speeds were fixed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/1739\/coaxial-surge-protector-preventing-high-speed-wifi\/img_20180926_125655973_3\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1742\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1742\" src=\"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/img_20180926_125655973_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/img_20180926_125655973_3.jpg 816w, http:\/\/10kdev.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/img_20180926_125655973_3-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/10kdev.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/img_20180926_125655973_3-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I try on a few test sites:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/12aab186fc3939ab06f3b211f3c8451c.png\" width=\"504\" height=\"371\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.evernote.com\/shard\/s609\/res\/ad8b572d-872b-4457-949e-add7f947b2e6.png\" width=\"509\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also &#8212;
