{"id":1961,"date":"2026-07-14T10:14:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T17:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/?p=1961"},"modified":"2026-07-27T10:20:47","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:20:47","slug":"the-gitkeep-method","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/10kdev.net\/?p=1961","title":{"rendered":"The gitkeep method"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s something new about git I learned, based on a suggestion working with Claude: the .gitkeep method.<\/p>\n<p>I was making a new spec repository for sharing tech specs from stories.\u00a0 Some of the directories were empty.<\/p>\n<p>Claude noted that there was a convention, not part of git, to create a .gitkeep file in an empty folder structure to get that folder checked in, because git doesn&#8217;t allow commit of these empty folders.<\/p>\n<p>Works great.\u00a0 Just add a .gitkeep (empty) file to your directory and it will allow you to commit that directory.
